BIOGRAPHY OF Mr Tony McEvoy BSc (Hons) FRCS (Tr & Orth) Mr. Tony McEvoy is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (Royal Preston Hospital & Chorley District General Hospital) Orthopaedic Surgery He was appointed as a Consultant to the Trust in February 2002 Specialisation After graduating in Medicine from St Andrews and Manchester University in 1988, the bulk of his training was in the North West region. He has held posts as the Wishbone Research Fellow (1994) and the Sir Harry Platt Research Fellow (1997). In his final year of training he was appointed as the Smith & Nephew Research Fellow in Sydney Australia. In this post he trained exclusively in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery in the largest Children’s Hospital in New South Wales. Since coming to Preston and Chorley he has specialised in Paediatric Orthopaedics, Foot and Ankle surgery and Trauma with an interest in Lower Limb reconstruction. Reputation He has set up a baby hip ultrasound screening service and introduced the Ponseti method of Clubfoot treatment to the trust. He also carries out specialised limb reconstruction techniques with the Taylor spatial frame. He is a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association and a member of BSCOS (British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery) and BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot and ankle society). He currently runs the Ponseti user group website at www.ponseti.org.uk. Personal Leisure interests include Golf and Skiing Mr McEvoy is married with 2 grown up children and lives In Preston.
BIOGRAPHY OF Mr George McLauchlan Mr George McLauchlan is a consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Hospital. Orthopaedic Surgery He was appointed to this post in September 2001 Specialisation He graduated from St Andrews (1986) and Manchester (1989) Universities. His junior training was in the North West and his Orthopaedic Training was in Edinburgh and Adelaide. He was awarded the Zimmer Scottish Travelling Fellowship in 2001. Mr McLauchlan's main orthopaedic interest is in surgery of the hip and knee. He introduced hip resurfacing to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and has published on the technique of minimally invasive hip replacement surgery. Reputation As well as training junior surgeons and running a recognised fellowship post for senior trainees he has published 17 peer reviewed research articles and spoken at national and international meetings. Personal Hobbies are skiing, gym (when feeling guilty) and golf when he can.
BIOGRAPHY OF Mr Peter Hughes BSc FRCS(Orth) Mr Peter Hughes is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He holds a Consultant post as an upper limb surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society. Orthopaedic Surgery He trained in orthopaedics in the Mersey region and then completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship in Sydney, Australia. Specialisation He has a special interest in the application of arthroscopic techniques to the treatment of shoulder conditions. Reputation He is an active researcher and has won several international research prizes which include Best Research Prize at the International Congress of Shoulder Surgery [Sydney 1997] and Best Paper Prize, Asian Shoulder Society. His research activity has continued as a consultant and in 2007 he was awarded Best Research Poster Prize by the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Mr Hughes has also been elected as a member of the European Shoulder and Elbow Society.
BIOGRAPHY OF Mr Stephen Bale BSc FRCS(Orth) Mr Stephen Bale is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery of the shoulder. Orthopaedic Surgery He trained in orthopaedics in Manchester holding posts of tutor and lecturer with the University Department of Orthopaedics. He holds the Sir Harry Platt Research Honour. Specialisation He has a special interest in upper limb surgery particularly in relation to the shoulder. Reputation He has travelled widely in Europe and the USA to exchange ideas on techniques relating to all aspects of shoulder surgery. His particular interests are rotator cuff surgery, instability and shoulder arthroplasty. He continues to be actively involved in research.
BIOGRAPHY OF Mr Daniel Redfern FRCS(Orth) Born and bred in nearby Rivington village, Daniel Redfern qualified from Barts’ Hospital in 1988 after studying Physiological Sciences at Oriel College, Oxford. Orthopaedic Surgery His training continued in London at St Mary’s Hospital, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. Daniel returned to Lancashire for good when he became a Consultant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in 1999. Specialisation Daniel’s major interests are in elbow, wrist and hand surgery. He has published and presented nationally and internationally in these fields. Daniel teaches regionally and nationally on trauma and hand surgery, and is a faculty teacher in wrist and elbow arthroscopy at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons. Reputation Winner of the prestigious Laming Evans Fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons, his Upper Limb training was completed as a fellow at the Wrightington Hospital before returning to the North West in 1999.
